Brand Overview

Golf Passport Algarve is the passport to discovering, playing and collecting the Algarve. It turns a golf trip into a record: every verified round becomes a stamp, every stamp builds a level, and the whole collection tells the story of a golfer's Algarve.

Purpose
To give golfers one trusted companion for the Algarve - before, during and after the trip - and to give the region's golf clubs and partners a way to be found by the golfers who are already on their way.
Vision
To become the trusted digital companion for every golfer visiting or playing in the Algarve, and the relationship layer between golfers and the Algarve golf ecosystem.
Mission
Publish verified golf information, let golfers record and collect their rounds, and connect them with the clubs, destinations and services that make an Algarve golf trip.
Brand promise
Discover, plan, play and remember the best golf experiences in the Algarve. Facts are checked before they appear; a stamp is only ever inked after a club or administrator verifies the visit.

Audience

Who the brand speaks to, in the order the product meets them.

  • Golf travellers

Planning a trip and deciding which courses to play.

  • Algarve visitors

Already in the region, looking for what is close and what is next.

  • International golfers

Ten interface languages; English is the canonical edition.

  • Golf enthusiasts

Collecting stamps, levelling from Explorer to Citizen.

  • Golf clubs

Represented with verified facts and their own collectible stamp.

  • Tourism partners

Shops, transfers, rentals and coaches in the Golf Directory.

  • Destination partners

Municipalities, events and the wider Algarve.

Name architecture

Three names appear in the shipped product. Each has one job.

  1. 01

    Golf AlgarveOfficial

    Platform and publisher name

The site title, the header lock-up beside the mark, the copyright line, the Passport issuer and the Organization in structured data. Always one word for "AlgarveOfficial", never "Algarve Official".

  2. 02

    Golf Passport

    The product

The collectible itself and its navigation label. A fixed brand term: it renders exactly as "Golf Passport" in every one of the ten locales and is never translated.

  3. 03

    Golf Passport Algarve

    The programme and brand name

The full name used for the brand, this guideline and the physical cover ("Algarve Golf Passport" on the printed booklet). Use it when the destination needs to be explicit.

Brand Story

The Algarve has been one of Europe's great golf coasts since the first fairways were laid at Penina in 1966 and Vale do Lobo in 1962. Dozens of clubs followed along the coast and into the hills - each with its own character, its own pines and cliffs and rias.

Golf Passport Algarve started from a simple observation: golfers remember courses the way travellers remember countries. A round at Quinta do Lago or Monte Rei deserves the same small ceremony as a border crossing - a stamp, a date, a page that fills up over the years.

So the brand looks like the object it is named after: a well-made travel passport kept in a quiet clubhouse. Deep fairway green is the cover, warm ivory and parchment are the pages, and a single heritage gold is the foil. The digital product keeps that tactility - frosted glass over paper, stamps that ink in when a club verifies a visit, levels that are earned rather than bought.

Golf is the reason to begin. The Algarve is the reason to keep going.

Brand Essence

Four verbs, taken from the product itself: the cover is embossed with them, the Passport asks for them, the Golf Network completes them.

  1. Discover

The Algarve extends beyond the course.

Clubs, destinations, events and the Golf Directory - verified before they are published.

  2. Play

Golf is the reason to begin.

The digital scorecard records the round; the club verifies the visit.

  3. Collect

Every round becomes part of the passport.

A stamp per club, six levels from Explorer to Citizen, a collection that fills up over years.

  4. Connect

The product connects golfers with the destination.

Golf clubs, the Golf Network and the region's partners share one platform.

Brand Positioning

Positioning statement

For golfers who travel to play, Golf Passport Algarve is the destination companion that turns Algarve golf into a verified, collectible record - because it is built with the region's clubs, and every fact and every stamp is checked before it appears.

Brand Personality

Each trait is held against its excess. The brand sits deliberately short of the extreme on every axis.

  1. Not Ostentatious

Quality shows in typography and spacing, not in ornament.

    Premium

  2. Not Arrogant

States facts; never boasts or ranks clubs by taste.

    Confident

  3. Not Informal

Warm and direct, without slang or exclamation marks.

    Welcoming

  4. Not Trendy

A serif and frosted glass, held for years, not a season.

    Contemporary

  5. Not Rustic

Real cork oaks and rias in the stamps; no faux-vintage grunge.

    Authentic

  6. Not Childish

Stamps, levels and a golf game on the homepage - with grown-up restraint.

    Playful

  7. Not Clinical

Verified, estimated and editorial claims are always distinguished.

    Precise

  8. Not Provincial

Rooted in sixteen municipalities, written for an international audience.

Brand Principles

  1. 01 — Destination first

Golf is the entry point to the Algarve experience. Every surface should make the region - its light, coast, hills and towns - as present as the course.

  2. 02 — Make it collectible

The Passport creates a sense of progress and discovery: one stamp per club, six levels, a collection that is never finished in a single trip.

  3. 03 — Premium through restraint

Quality comes from typography, spacing, composition and detail - not decoration. One colour family, gold held back to accents.

  4. 04 — Digital, but tactile

The product keeps the emotional qualities of a physical passport: paper grain, security print, ink that deepens when a visit is verified.

  5. 05 — Consistency creates recognition

Every stamp, badge, card and interaction belongs to the same system. One radius scale, one motion curve, one icon family.

  6. 06 — Verified over impressive

A fact is published when it has been checked. A stamp is inked when a club confirms it. The brand would rather show less than claim more.

Logo Usage

  • Render the SVG, never a rasterised copyOfficial

The mark is a full-bleed square SVG that scales losslessly. In the product it is rendered directly through the shared logo component; routing it through an image optimiser rasterises it to a capped-resolution WebP.

  • Alt text follows contextOfficial

A standalone mark carries alt="Golf AlgarveOfficial". Beside the written name, or inside a link that already has an accessible name, the mark is decorative (alt="").

  • Icons are the mark, edge to edgeOfficial

Every raster icon (iOS, PWA 192 and 512) fills its square with the mark's own green - the mark is never inset on a page-background tile. #f7f4ed is only the PWA splash colour behind the icon.

  • The mark's green is not a UI tokenOfficial

#017658 belongs to the logo artwork. Interface surfaces use Fairway Green (--primary); never recolour the mark to match a surface, and never paint a surface with the mark's green.

  • Clear spaceProposed

Keep a margin of at least one quarter of the mark's height on every side free of other artwork and text. The header uses a 12px gap at a 32px mark.

  • Minimum sizeProposed

24px on screen (the header renders it at 32px); 8mm in print.

Backgrounds

Approved grounds are the brand's own surfaces. Photography and gold compete with the mark.

Colour System

Every colour is a semantic token declared once in the product's stylesheet. The name is how designers talk about it; the token is what the code uses; the hex is what it resolves to in the light theme.

Fraunces appears on titles, display lines, card titles and the signature. Everything a golfer reads to operate the product - body, buttons, inputs, navigation, labels - is Inter.

  • Tracked caps

  • No synthetic bold

Only the loaded weights are used: Fraunces and Inter 400 to 700, Plex Mono 400 and 500. Weight 800 is never requested.

The single approved fallback photograph, shown when a club has no image of its own. It never claims to be the pictured club.

13Imagery

Illustration

The illustration language is the stamp: an engraved, single-ink landscape of the club inside a frame. Hand-drawn club artwork and the procedural renderer share one grammar so every future course illustration belongs to the same collection.

  • Quinta do Lago passport stamp: engraved course landscape inside its frame

    Quinta do Lago · hand-drawn

  • Vale do Lobo passport stamp: engraved course landscape inside its frame

    Vale do Lobo · hand-drawn

  • Example · procedural

Left and centre: hand-drawn, fact-checked club artwork as shipped. Right: the procedural engraved renderer that draws any club without approved artwork yet, shown here on a synthetic example - every real curated club now has shipped custom artwork - in its not-yet-visited ink.
Line weight
Single-weight engraved line; 2.6 to 3.2 units on a 200-unit stamp for the border, 1 to 1.2 for inner rings
Geometry
Ten silhouettes - circle, double ring, oval, landscape and tall oval, ticket, rounded square, hexagon, scalloped seal, expedition octagon
Perspective
Eye-level landscape inside the frame: horizon in the upper half, foreground detail below
Level of detail
One motif per stamp drawn from something true about the place - coast, pines, ria, castle, marina, cliff, cork oak
Stroke treatment
Rubber-stamp edges: a light SVG turbulence displacement roughens the outline and opens tiny ink gaps
Corners
Coordinates are a hair off true so nothing reads as machine-perfect
Texture
Fine hatching and stipple in the artwork; never halftone or photographic grain
Colour
One ink. Fairway Green when verified, 55% when pending, 30% Parchment Ink when not yet visited; hand-drawn club artwork keeps its own ink, reversed to light on dark paper
Backgrounds
Always on parchment or transparent; never on a coloured tile
Shadows
None. A stamp is ink on paper
Composition
Legend arcs around round shapes and sits on straight lines for tickets and squares; locality and founding year complete the frame

Hero illustration

The hero's own illustration: contour lines, a dotted fairway path, a green with its flag, a dimpled ball - drawn in the accent and white at low opacity so it reads as an embossed map, never as a graphic.

Golf Stamp System

The stamp is the Passport's core asset: one per club, drawn from something true about the place, inked only when the club verifies the visit. Every approved club has its own hand-drawn artwork; any other club renders through the same engraved grammar.

Quinta do Lago stamp: an arched frame around umbrella pines, a lake and a green with its flag, the club name across the base

Anatomy

  1. 01

    Outer shape

One of ten silhouettes; 200 × 200 drawing box, two rings where the shape language calls for it

  2. 02

    Border

Engraved single-weight line with rubber-stamp edge roughening

  3. 03

    Course name

Fraunces, uppercase, tracked; arcs on round shapes, straight on tickets and squares

  4. 04

    Location

Locality line - Loulé, Lagos, Ria Formosa - completing the frame

  5. 05

    Golf symbol

One engraved motif true to the place: pines, lake, cliff, castle, marina, ria

  6. 06

    Course identifier

The club's slug binds artwork, route and verification record

  7. 07

    Date

VERIFIED · 26 AUG 2026 inside a verified stamp; the year alone when not yet visited

  8. 08

    Level

Stamps count towards six levels; the level seal sits beside the collection, never inside a stamp

  9. 09

    Supporting line

ALGARVE · PORTUGAL or the founding year (EST. 1974), sourced, never guessed

Collection states

The artwork never changes between states; only the ink does. A club not yet visited shows the real stamp, ghosted - never a placeholder.

  1. Quinta do Lago

    Verified 26 Aug 2026

  2. Vale do Lobo

    Pending review

  3. Monte Rei

    Not yet visited

  • Verified

Full ink. The club or an administrator has confirmed the visit; the date is printed.

  • Pending review

Fifty-five percent ink. The golfer has claimed the visit; the stamp waits for verification.

  • Not yet visited

Ghosted at thirty percent Parchment Ink - the golfer sees the stamp they will earn.

Digital and physical

Physical passport
Ink on parchment at the club's desk. The digital stamp mirrors its proportions and single-ink language.
Web application
96px slots on phones, 144px from 640px, in the parchment stamp grid; caption and status line beneath, never inside.
Mobile
Three columns from 320px; the artwork never shrinks below 80px.
Achievement cards
The verified stamp beside its date and level; the level seal is a separate ring, not a stamp.
Social media
PROPOSED: one stamp on parchment with the club name and date, never a collage of many.
Promotional materials
PROPOSED: stamps appear only for clubs that have approved their artwork.

Don't

  • Do not recolour a stamp or add a coloured fill
  • Do not add drop shadows or embossing
  • Do not rotate beyond the fixed ±6° tilt families
  • Do not invent a stamp for a club that has not approved its artwork
  • Do not overlay a stamp on photography
  • Do not use a placeholder icon for a club not yet visited - ghost the real stamp

16Passport

Golf Club Identity

Golf Passport provides the frame; each club keeps its own identity inside it. A club appears with its official name, its locality, its own photography and its approved stamp - never with a recoloured logo or an invented mark.

Golf Passport provides

  • The stamp frame and ink language
  • The verification record and date
  • The club card, facts and route
  • The level system the stamp counts towards

The club keeps

  • Its own name, logo and colours
  • Its photography and gallery
  • Its social channels and contact
  • Approval over its stamp artwork

Represented fields

  • Official club name
  • Course name(s) and layouts
  • Locality · municipality
  • Featured photograph with focal point
  • Passport stamp
  • Verified-information status
  • Services and access model

The Golf Passport visual system is the frame; a club's own identity is the content. Club logos are never recoloured, cropped into the stamp or placed on Golf Passport green without permission.

17Passport

Passport & Collectible Language

Collectible, authentic and rewarding - never gamified in a childish way. Progress is derived from verified stamps alone; nothing is bought, toggled or awarded for logging in.

Levels

Six levels, fixed club-count thresholds, one seal each. Citizen's upper bound follows the published club count so it can always be reached.

  1. Explorer

    1 club

  2. Birdie

    2–4 clubs

  3. Eagle

    5–10 clubs

  4. Albatross

    11–20 clubs

  5. Ambassador

    21–26 clubs

  6. Citizen

    27+ clubs

Specimen shows a golfer at Birdie. A reached level fills the seal with Fairway Green and a gold ring; an upcoming level keeps the dashed parchment ring.

Vocabulary

Passport
The golfer's private record. Created lazily on first sign-in; never shared with other users.
Stamp
One club, one stamp. Claimed by the golfer, inked when verified.
Claim
A visit submitted for review - by location check at the club or by name.
Verified
Confirmed by an authorised club representative or administrator. The only path to full ink.
Level
Explorer to Citizen, derived from the verified count. Never bought, never toggled.
Progress
"12 of 27 stamps · Birdie" - the tally in the Passport's gold serif.
Milestone
The next level and how many clubs remain: "Need 3 more clubs to reach Eagle."
Completion
Citizen: every eligible facility verified. "You have unlocked every Passport level."

Empty and unlock states

A collection waiting to begin is a page of the Passport, not a dashed wireframe box.

Specimen of the Passport's first-use row; the action leads to your Passport.

Badges and status

Twenty-pixel pills in Inter 500. Status badges pair an icon with the word; colour never carries the state alone.

19Product

Components

The golf club card is the product's most repeated component and the clearest test of the system: photograph, serif name, tracked facts, tabular figures and one clear action.

The live component with real published data, exactly as it renders in the directory.

Anatomy

  1. 01Course image — 4:3, object-cover with the CMS focal point; featured and status chips float at the corners
  2. 02Locality line — Pin glyph, locality and municipality in 13px Slate ink
  3. 03Club name — Fraunces 28px, two lines maximum
  4. 04Facts — Access model · setting · verified-information mark
  5. 05Summary — Two lines of 14px, clamped
  6. 06Figures — Holes and par as 24px bold tabular numerals with tracked labels
  7. 07Actions — "View Course" outline link; gold "Scorecard" quick-start only when data exists

States

Default

Hover (desktop)
Four-pixel lift, photo to 105% over 500ms, one light sweep
Focus

Featured
A white chip top-left; the status chip top-right
No image
The single approved fallback photograph, never a grey box
No scorecard data
The quick-start button is absent, not disabled

Do

  • Keep the whole card as one link with one visible action row.
  • Show holes and par only when a playable layout exists.
  • Let the club's photograph carry the colour; the card stays glass.

Don't

  • Add a redundant "View club profile" label inside the card.
  • Render prices, tee times or ratings the product does not hold.
  • Grey out an action that simply does not exist for this club.

21Voice

Voice & Tone

The brand speaks the way a knowledgeable host speaks: confident about what it knows, curious about the place, and never louder than the golfer.

  • Clear

Short sentences, one idea each, active voice.

Distinguishes verified, estimated, editorial and AI-generated claims.

  • Contemporary

Plain British English; no golf-club formality, no start-up slang.

22Voice

Editorial Writing

Clear, concise, active language. Short sentences with one idea each.

Prefer

  • Clear, concise, active language
  • Sentence case for interface text; uppercase only for tracked labels
  • British English (colour, verify, centre) with en-GB dates
  • Primary actions of two to four words with one verb: Explore Clubs, Claim a visit
  • Product nouns capitalised: Passport, Golf Passport, Golf Network, Golf Directory
  • "Golf facility" for the verified record; "club" in conversation

Avoid

  • Corporate jargon (leverage, seamless, solution)
  • Empty superlatives (world-class, best-in-class)
  • Generic luxury language (exclusive, indulgent, bespoke)
  • Exclamation marks in interface copy
  • Artificial urgency (hurry, last chance, don't miss out)
  • Clichés (hidden gem, golfer's paradise)

Length limits

Copy has to fit ten languages. These limits are the interface contract, not a style preference.

Do / Don't

The whole system in seven comparisons.

  1. Logo

    Do

Render the official SVG mark at 24px or larger with clear space.

    Don't

Rasterise it, recolour it, or reach for the historical booklet mark.

  2. Colour

    Do

Fairway Green on ivory with gold held to chips, rings and hairlines.

    Don't

Fill panels with gold, set gold text on white, or add a fifth status colour.

  3. Typography

    Do

Fraunces 400 for titles; Inter for everything a golfer operates.

    Don't

Set body copy or buttons in the serif, or use synthetic weight 800.

  4. Photography

    Do

Natural light, real Algarve places, golf in context.

    Don't

Stock swings, HDR skies, saturation, generic resorts.

  5. Stamps

    Don't

Invent artwork, add colour fills or shadows, overlay on photographs.

  6. UI

    Do

Glass over paper, one radius scale, 44px targets, visible focus.

    Don't

Black shadows, arbitrary radii, looping animation, hover-only states.

  7. Voice

    Do

"Your first stamp is one round away."

    Don't

Accessibility

Accessibility is a property of the brand, not a compliance pass. Every rule below is enforced in the product's shared primitives.

Standard
WCAG 2.2 AA is the minimum target for every public and admin surface.
Colour contrast
Text meets 4.5:1; champagne gold text sits only on fairway green or dark glass, switching to Fairway Green Deep on light surfaces.
Typography minimums
14px working text; 16px inputs on phones; 10–11px reserved for tracked labels and tabular data, never task-critical prose.
Focus states
Always visible: solid gold border and glow on buttons and inputs, a 3px Moss Ring on borderless links and badges, white ring on green.
Keyboard
Every control reachable in order; a skip link to main content; dialogs trap and restore focus.
Touch targets
44 × 44px minimum; native selects floored at 44px globally.
Alt text
Informative images describe; decorative images, icons and the stamp artwork are aria-hidden or alt="".
Reduced motion
Every animation utility and Motion reveal is removed under prefers-reduced-motion; hover lifts are desktop-only.
Semantic structure
One H1, ordered headings, landmarks (header, nav, main, footer), lists for lists.
Screen readers
Status never by colour alone; live regions for counters; icon-only controls named.

Contrast

Approved text-on-surface pairings with their measured WCAG contrast ratio.
