Cookie Policy
Version 1.1 — Last updated 11 September 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar storage technologies are, which ones Golf Passport Algarve currently uses, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
On an unauthenticated visit
A normal, unauthenticated visit to the public website currently sets zero cookies. Nothing is set simply by browsing — every item below is set only in direct response to something you do.
Strictly necessary
These exist to make functionality you've requested work, and are never optional:
- Better Auth session cookie(s) — set only when you sign in, to keep you signed in between pages;
- a short-lived MFA security cookie — set only during an active multi-factor authentication challenge.
Preference / functional
These remember a choice you've already made, on this device only:
- a gpa_locale cookie — set only when you explicitly select a language;
- browser local storage for UI/sidebar layout preference;
- browser local storage for light/dark theme preference;
- browser local storage for the recently used golf courses shown when starting a new scorecard round — this never leaves your browser.
- browser local storage for scorecard hole scores that could not be saved yet (for example with no signal on the course) — kept only until they are saved to your account, then removed.
None of these are shared with a third party, and gpa_locale in particular is a core part of delivering the website in your chosen language rather than an optional tracking cookie.
Analytics
Google Analytics 4 is installed, and it does not run until you allow it. For a visitor who has not granted the Analytics category, nothing analytics-related loads: no script is added to the page, and no analytics cookie is set.
Once you grant Analytics consent, the site loads Google's gtag.js from googletagmanager.com, and Google Analytics 4 measures how the site is used — pages viewed, session and device basics, and standard GA4 events. It sets two cookies in your browser, _ga and _ga_<container-id>, which distinguish visitors and sessions and expire two years after they are last refreshed. The measurement data is sent to Google.
Withdrawing Analytics consent stops the site from loading the tag on any later page view. A tag already running in the tab you have open is not retracted until you reload the page or navigate away.
Advertising / marketing
No advertising or cross-site tracking technology is installed. This site sets no advertising cookie, and there is no Meta pixel, no advertising network tag, and no cross-site tracking script in the page.
Google Analytics can also be used for advertising, and that side of it is switched off here. The advertising features are disabled on our Google Analytics property, and the site separately instructs Google's tag to deny ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization (Google Consent Mode) on every page load, without exception. No remarketing audience is built from your visit, and the Marketing category below governs no advertising technology today.
Cookie Preferences
The website includes a Cookie Preferences control, available at any time from the footer, that lets you accept all, reject all non-essential categories, or choose individually between Analytics, Functional and Marketing. Analytics controls the measurement described above and nothing in it runs before you have granted that category. Marketing currently governs no technology at all, for the reason given in that section. Your choice is stored on your own device and can be changed at any time.
Because this policy previously stated that no analytics provider was installed, any choice recorded under it was made on a description that no longer holds. Those choices have been reset, and you will have been asked again.
Changes to this policy
This policy is updated when what runs on the site changes. Version 1.0 (1 September 2026) described a site with no analytics at all; Google Analytics 4 was introduced on 2 September 2026, and this version, of 11 September 2026, replaces those earlier statements and describes the measurement that actually runs.
Any non-essential technology introduced in future will be gated behind the Cookie Preferences control described above and will not run until you have consented to it — not after.
Managing cookies
You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the website's footer. You can also control or delete cookies through your browser's own settings; note that blocking necessary cookies may prevent parts of the site, such as staying signed in, from working.
